ACS Massachusetts Chapter joins ACS Italy Chapter annual meeting in Milan
AISNA IS NOW AN ACTIVE PROGRAM OF ACS ITALY CHAPTER
The Association of the Italian Surgeons in North America is now an active program of ACS Italy Chapter. The main purpose of the AISNA is to connect Italian surgical students, residents and young surgeons with Italian Surgeons in North America. L’Associazione dei Chirurghi Italiani in Nord America (Association of Italian Surgeons in North America – AISNA) è nata nell’Ottobre 2011 a San Francisco dalla collaborazione di diversi Chirurghi nati e cresciuti in Italia, molti dei quali attualmente attivi a livello accademico nelle più rinomate Università Statunitensi.
Lo scopo dell’Associazione è quello di riunire sotto un unico ente il maggior numero possibile di Chirurghi di origine o nazionalità Italiana che lavorano oggi in Nord America od hanno avuto tale esperienza in passato. L'associazione si propone di favorire scambi culturali e professionali tra Istituzioni Nordamericane ed Italiane. In particolare, offre a Studenti di Medicina e Chirurgia o Specializzandi in Chirurgia la possibilità di effettuare in Nord America ricerca scientifica all’avanguardia in diversi campi di interesse chirurgico. Only Fellows up-to-date with their payment of the annual fees and honorary members are entitled to take active part in the scientific sessions.
RESIDENTS BEST PRESENTATION AWARD
Residents can now send their abstracts for ACS Italy Chapter Meeting in Milan (October 21-24, 2015). Italian Residents in General Surgery will be able to participate. The abstract should necessarily be no more than 2 typewritten (Ariel 12) double-spaced pages. The abstract should include the Title, the Authors (the resident has to be the first Author - 5 Authors max.) the Institution, Background, Material and Methods, Results and Conclusions. Abstracts should be submitted to giuseppe.nigri@uniroma1.it by June 30, 2015.
SURGICAL JEOPARDY FOR RESIDENTS
This year, for the first time, the "Surgical Jeopardy" has arrived at the ACS Italy Chapter Meeting in Milan (October 21-24, 2015). Italian Residents in General Surgery will be able to participate. The winner will be awarded with a free AIMS (Advanced International Mini-invasive Surgery Academy) Course.
AMERICAN COLLEGE OF SURGEONS COMMUNITY SURGEON TRAVEL AWARD
The International Relations Committee of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) is pleased to announce travel awards for surgeons aged 30 to 50. These awards, in the amount of $4,000 each, provide international surgeons with the opportunity to attend and participate fully in the educational activities of the ACS annual Clinical Congress. They are proposed to specifically assist surgeons who work in community or regional hospitals or clinics in countries other than the United States and Canada, or who are from struggling academic departments of surgery in low- or middle-income countries.Each awardee will receive gratis registration to the annual Clinical Congress and to one available postgraduate course held during the Clinical Congress. Assistance will be provided to obtain preferential housing in an economical hotel in the Clinical Congress city. In 2016, the Clinical Congress takes place in Washington, DC, October 16-20. ACS ITALY CHAPTER AND ACS MASSACHUSETTS CHAPTER ARE NOW PARTNERS
The ACS Italy Chapter and the ACS Massachusetts Chapter agreed on a partnership program during the ACS Clinical Congress in San Francisco. Terry Buchmiller, President of the Massachusetts Chapter and Prof. Di Cataldo, Prof. Puccio and Prof. Nigri met during the Congress. DR. NIGRI ELECTED CHAIR OF ACS SUBCOMMITTE
Dr. Giuseppe Nigri has been elected Chair of the International Relations Committee (IRC) Scholar Selection Subcommittee of the American College of Surgeons during the ACS Clinical Congress in San Francisco. The IRC, among the numerous other activities, each year selects the ACS International Scholars, strengthening the collaboration between ACS and other countries.

ACS ITALY CHAPTER CONJOINED CONGRESS WITH THE ITALIAN SOCIETY FOR SUGERY - OCTOBER 2014
A Roma in Ottobre (12-15) si è tenuto il congresso dell'ACS Italy Chapter e della Società Italiana di Chirurgia. La ACS Italy Chapter Program Committee è riuscita a creare un valido programma scientifico supportato da importanti ospiti stranieri quali il Dr. Carlos Pellegrini (USA), Dr. Markus Buchler (Germany), Dr. Philiph Stahl (USA) e Dr. Ali Zarrimpar (USA).
2014 ACS LEADERSHIP AND ADVOCACY SUMMIT: DR. NIGRI TALKS ABOUT THE ACS YFA MENTORSHIP PROGRAM
Dal 29 Marzo al 1 Aprile si è tenuta la ACS Leadership Conference in Washington DC alla presenza dei leaders dell'ACS. Il Prof. Nigri ha spiegato in un panel, insieme con il Dr. Mark Malangoni, Director of the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Jennifer Rosen e Dr. Patricia Turner (Director of the Division of Member Services) il significato ed il successo del ACS Young Fellows Association Mentorship Program, di cui aveva fatto parte ed il cui Mentor è stato il Dr. Carlos Pellegrini. ACS ITALY CHAPTER SIGNS A COLLABORATION WITH EndoCAS
L'ACS Italy Chapter, rappresentato dal Presidente Prof. Paganini ed il prestigioso centro EndoCAS di Pisa, rappresentato dal Prof. Mosca, siglano un accordo di collaborazione. Il centro EndoCAS Center for Computer Assisted Surgery di Pisa è stato accreditato, nel 2013, dall'American College of Surgeons quale Accredited Education Institute, e risulta il primo e l'unico istituto di questo tipo accreditato in Italia. PROF. GIUSEPPE NIGRI AWARDED ACS SCHOLARSHIP FOR SURGICAL EDUCATION
Il Prof. Giuseppe R Nigri, fellow del Capitolo Italiano, è risultato vincitore del premio Scholarship for Surgical Education dell'American College of Surgeons . il Dr. Nigri ha avuto modo di prendere parte alla Cerimonia Inaugurale del 2013 ACS Clinical Congress e di moderare la sessione International College Scholars insieme con Prof. Graham Layer. Il Dr. Nigri ha quindi visitato the Johns Hopkins' Department of Surgery, diretta dal Dr. Julie Freishlag, ed in particolar modo il Minimally Invasive Surgery Training Center (MISTC) diretto dal Dr. Michael Marohn. Ha inoltre potuto partecipare all'attività operatoria del Dr. Cameron e del Dr. Pawlik.
La Scholarship si concluderà a Febbraio 2014, dopo aver visitato STRATUS Center for Surgical Education del Brigham and Women's Hospital, ed il Department of Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA - USA
GRUPPO MEDICINA E LEGALITÀ (MED&LEG)
Il Gruppo ha prodotto, in otto anni di attività, cinque manuali ad uso del chirurgo ed è impegnato attivamente per sostenere la necessità di una comunicazione sempre più partecipe tra clinico e giurista. L'impegno di Med&Leg si è arricchito da un anno circa grazie all'apertura del sito web www.medicinaelegalita.org all'interno del quale vengono presentate cosiddette "Evidenze", ovvero sentenze di merito o cassazione, leggi, decreti, pronunciamenti e quant'altro ritenuto meritevole di una valutazione da parte del Gruppo di Studio. DR. GIUSEPPE NIGRI MEMBER OF THE INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS COMMITTEE
Durante il 2010 ACS Clinical Congress a Washington DC, il Dr. Giuseppe Nigri è stato eletto, dal Board of Regents dell’American College of Surgeons, Member of the International Relations Committee. La commissione, il cui Presidente è il Dr. Fabrizio Michelassi, Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College and Surgeon-in-Chief at the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, promuove le relazioni tra il College e i chirurghi in tutto il mondo nell’ambito della pratica clinica, insegnamento e ricerca in modo da diffondere una chirurgia dagli stantdars elevati. La Commissione, inoltre, seleziona i candidati per le Scholarships distribuite dall’American College of Surgeons. Il Dr. Nigri è stato inoltre nominato Member of Subcommitte on International Activities of the Division of Member Services of ACS ed è membro del ACS Young Fellows Association (YFA). Inoltre, nel corso del Congresso del Capitolo Italiano dell’ACS tenutosi a Torino il 25-27 Novembre in concomitanza con il congresso dell’European Surgical Society, è stato nominato membro del Consiglio Direttivo del Capitolo stesso.
DR. GIUSEPPE NIGRI AWARDED THE ACS ABDOL ISLAMI INTERNATIONAL GUEST SCHOLAR
Il Dr. Giuseppe R Nigri, fellow del Capitolo Italiano, è risultato vincitore del premio ACS Abdol Islami International Guest Scholar per l’anno 2009. Il Dr. Nigri, il cui Mentor è stato il Dr. Richard Finley Vicepresidente dell’American College of Surgeons, ha avuto modo di prendere parte alla Cerimonia Inaugurale del 2009 ACS Clinical Congress e di presentare un lavoro alla sessione International Perspective on Surgery, moderata dal Dr. Yuman Fong. Il Dr. Nigri ha quindi visitato la Divisione di Chirurgia epatobiliopancreatica del Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center di New York, diretta dal Dr. Jarnagin, suo Mentor in questa occasione. Ha inoltre ha potuto osservare in sala operatoria il Dr. Brennan, il Dr. Fong, il Dr. De Matteo ed il Dr. D’Agelica e di conoscere il Dr. Blumgart. A New York ha potuto inoltre visitare, presso la New York University e il New York HHSVA, il Dr. Marco Melis, di cui l'ACS Italian Chapter ha patrocinato, a Giugno 2009, un meeting sulla carcinosi da cancro del colon retto presso il Policlinico Sant'Andrea di Roma. Successivamente ha raggiunto il Massachusetts General Hospital a Boston, dove era già stato dal 1999 al 2003, dove ha ritrovato il Dr. Warshaw ed il Dr. Fernadez, che sono stati i Mentors presso l’MGH durante la Scholarship. La Scholarship si concluderà a Giugno prossimo, dopo aver visitato il Dr. Michael Sarr presso la Mayo Clinic School of Medicine, a Rochester, MN

"DIGESTIVE SURGERY" CONGRESS, ROME - APRIL 10-12 2014Il Congresso "Digestive Surgery: new trends and spending review", patrocinato dall'ACS Italy Chapter, si terrà a Roma presso l'Hotel Crowne Plaza il 10-12 Aprile 2014. Numerosi Fellows del Capitolo Italiano sono stati invitati a partecipare. Il congresso prevede quattro sessioni: hepatobiliary, pancreatic, esophageal and gastric, colorectal. Intervengono al Congresso Prof. Daniel Azoulay (France) and Prof. Kevin Conlon MD, FACS (Ireland) .

Si informa che il Congresso Chirurgia 2.0, realizzato con il patrocinio dell'American College of Surgeons - Italy Chapter ed organizzato dalla Prof. Dalila Patrizia Greco a capo della Commissione Donne Chirurgo dello stesso Capitolo, è stato tenuto a Milano in data 15 Novembre 2013.

UNITA' E VALORE DELLA CHIRURGIA ITALIANA - 1° CONGRESSO NAZIONALE
L' ACS - Italy Chapter e le più importanti Società Scientifiche Nazionali di area chirurgica, hanno rinunciato per la prima volta al loro evento annuale per unirsi in un unico congresso congiunto finalizzato a creare un evento rappresentativo dell’identità chirurgica italiana. La Chirurgia Italiana ha inteso dare, per prima, un segnale di razionalizzazione e concertazione, per ribadire l’elevato livello scientifico e tecnico di tutte le sue componenti e la sua capacità di gestire il difficile momento economico. La sede prestigiosissima, Auditorium Parco della Musica, ha costituito, con un’area espositiva di 3.000 mq, il luogo ideale per una comunicazione continua fra 4.000 chirurghi.
